How to Get a Job: College Student Edition producer Olivia Wabski turns the tables and interviews host Daniel Botero, asking questions about his childhood, about how he started the Mastering College to Career Academy and about the recent change to the program.

Botero, originally from Columbia, was born into a wealthy family. When Botero was 3, his father passed away from pancreatitis, and five years later the family business went bankrupt. After the death of his father, Botero’s mother went from never working a day in her life to having to support two children.

Not knowing what to do, his mother moved to the United States in 1999 with only two suitcases and $2,000. It was a lifestyle change for the family. His mother began working seven days a week for under minimum wage, opposite of the years prior—going to the country club with her friends.

He grew up with “motivation and drive” to ensure the sacrifices his mother made was towards a good cause. He wanted to live the “American dream,” wanting to do something great and work towards getting his family back to where they were prior to his father’s death.

Botero went to the University of Central Florida, double majoring in marketing and management. Botero, a natural networking, became at district manager at PepsiCo after graduation. After getting involved with recruitment, he fell in love with public speaking and helping people. Four years ago, Botero quit PepsiCo and started Mastering College to Career.
